This was a test on HDV that we did over the Easter Weekend 2010 on the River Escapes cruise boats on the Tyne.

Sam Keating has developed device control software which enables GPS to control the camera zoom.

The speed and distance of the boats’ journey were used to calculate the speed of the zoom.

Going downriver the camera is zooming out and as the vessel turns to make it’s return along the Tyne to Newcastle the zoom is reversed.

Further testing will be carried out over the next few months to perfect this method, which we hope to  adapt for use with the Red One. Colour grades will be applied to make the videos look like 19th Century paintings from the museum archive.
